Back-to-back mercy wins get the Beers back on track

The Beers took the loss against the Homers last week in an errorfest. Both teams gave up mostly unearned runs and unfortunately the Beers fell short. Then, the Beers tied the Marlins 0-0 on a day that both teams were plagued by the vacation week. The teams each had less than the minimum number of players to start the game and so the game was never played.

Since then, the Beers have taken advantage of the two lowest teams in the standings and have gotten themselves back on track with two mercy wins. The first one was a blowout at Wilson park. The Marlins' pitchers couldn't find the strikezone... and when they did they were punished. Josh Friedmann went 3-for-3 with two grand slam home runs, giving him a total 9 RBI. The other great story of the day was the relief pitching by Phil Malwyn. He went 3 strong innings to guide the team to the mercy victory. The second game was also a blowout, this time at St-Laurent Park. The Beers played strong defence behind starter Mickey Fishman and then J-M Estrela finished off the game. Offensive contributions came from top to bottom in the order.

The two games remaining on the schedule and the last week and a half of the season will determine the rankings for the playoffs. 1 plays 8, 2 plays 7, 3 plays 6, and 4 plays 5. With the Cards and the Expos looking to finish either in 2nd or in 3rd, the Beers would like to lock up 4th place so that they won't have to face one of those two strong teams in the first round.
