Brew Crew Into the Semis

Beers Down The Homers In 2 Straight, Tied 1-1 in the Semi-final

The Beers finished off their fabulous season tied for 2nd place overall. Splitting the double-header with the Expos on the final day of the season meant they could not capture sole possesion of 2nd place. With a record of 17-5, they only dropped to 3rd because the Indians from Verdun held the tiebreaker. With that 3rd position in the playoff rankings, the Beers drew the 6th place Homers in the first round. The other matchups were Orioles (1) vs. Mariners (8), Verdun (2) vs. Angels (7), and Expos (4) vs. Sox (5).

The Orioles, Verdun and the Expos all advanced in two straight games, and now it was up to the Beers to follow suit. After rain and postponed games, the series finally got underway. The Beers first game was won based on amazing pitching and defence. It was a tight battle and the Beers took Game 1 by the score of 5-2. The second game was more of a heated battle, especially after the Homer's pitcher intentionally threw the ball at a runner who was trying to steal a base. But alas, the Beers were victorious after putting up a huge 16 runs on the board. The final of that one was 16-6.

Now the Beers are into the semis against their division rivals, the Verdun Indians. They dropped the first game of the series upon giving up 12 runs. The one bright spot in the game was a homerun by one of the Beers' leaders, Craig Boer. The second game of the semi-finals was an 8-inning affair. The Beers got great pitching from both Martin Gagnier and Jay Paré, but a few costly errors and walks caused the brew crew to fall behind big time in the 6th. The score was 14-5 in favor of the Indians. In the bottom of that inning, the Beers put 3 runs up on the scoreboard and then scored another 6 in the bottom of the 7th to force an extra frame. After the Indians leadoff batter reached base in the top of the 8th, the Beers bared down and held him stranded. A few walks and a Neil Schnitzer walk-off single in the bottom half gave the Beers the win and leveled the series at 1-1.

Beers are hot right now. They will not lay down and let the Indians take the series easily. They will fight to the end. The rest of the series is scheduled as follows: Monday-Tuesday-Thursday(if nec).
